I've been knitting these bizarrely complicated socks from Nancy Bush's Knitting Vintage Socks. They included lots of swearing. The pattern abbreviation for this is (sw) or if it's really difficult (SW). Also lots of shouting 'don't talk to me...I'm KNITTING!'
I shortened the leg length because I thought I wouldn't have enough yarn but actually I had loads. Bit of a strange pointed toe. Partly my fault for being a smarty and insisting on grafting instead of just gathering up last few stitches as per the instructions. Just have to work up the enthusiasm to knit the other one now. Or hop a lot.

Which pattern is that? I've been looking at the book and I just haven't been able to cast on. They ALL look insanely complicated (which is strange, 'cause I've also got the Weldon's they come from and THOSE patterns don't intimidate me!)

Stupid blogger non reply thingie! Sorry Romily - can only answer you here. I know what you mean about the socks in that book being a bit daunting. I had a good few false starts before I found one I could cope with. With the benefit of hindsight it's not really that complicated although some of her instructions are not as clear as they might be! If you decide to have a go, give me a shout if I can help. In the first few rows there is a tricky little 'don't knit the first stitch' thingy that threw me a bit but you just watch for the alignment of your stitches and that guides you.

Yummy sock, sally....brilliant work. Now get to work on the other one....or be like me and allow terminal Second Sock Syndrome to set in (still have a lace sock of mine to do, having knit just one last summer...)
